Sport & Exercise Science BTEC
What are the entry requirements?5 A*-C GCSE grades
Who is the Course for?
This National award is designed for students who have an interest in the sporting world and is a great foundation for a university degree. It is the equivalent to one A level.
This course will be suitable for those with a keen interest in sports science who are committed to hard work.
What will I study?
This course provides a more practical, real-world approach to learning alongside a key theoretical background in sport and exercise science.
The subject content is divided into six units of study, four of which are compulsory and two that we, as a school, can choose to study across the two years of the course. Each unit represents approximately 60 hours teaching time.
What units will I take?
Compulsory units of Study:
1. Anatomy for Sport and Exercise
2. Sport and Exercise Physiology
3. Sport and Exercise Psychology
4. Research Methods for Sport and Exercise Sciences
We have chosen to study the following two units:
18. Practical Team Sports
23. Work-based Experience in Sport
How will I be assessed?
The course is 100% coursework centred on written assignments in each unit of work and there are three levels of attainment for students; pass, merit and distinction. There will also be a placement for students to develop their skills in the world of work. Students will be supported throughout the course but it will involve a lot of individual studying time. Assessors will check students work throughout the year to check that it meets the national standards and the work may also be looked at by an external verifier. Students need to show that they have developed analytical and evaluative skills to gain the better levels of award. Group work is also a key element of the course where students have to demonstrate their team work, skill development and peer assessment.
Other Information
By the end of the course students will have an excellent knowledge of how the body works through the body in action, understand how psychology affects performance, develop an understanding for research methods and develop their own abilities and others through sport.
