Sixth Form Centre

New Sixth Form Centre

The new Canons High School Sixth Form Centre opened its doors in September 2009 to the wonder of staff and students.  Full of innovative design features and state of the art facilities, the new building marks an exciting phase of the school's ongoing developments.

Most Sixth Form lessons and activities will now be housed in this brand new, purpose built block, with facilities that support our high performing Technology College and Applied Learning Status and our commitment to ensure excellence for all.  The top floor of the Sixth Form Centre, which is solely for the use of Sixth Form students, contains a modern, bright and spacious Social Meeting Area, with its internet café feel, as well as a fully equipped large Private Study Area to support independent study/work.

There are also a range of seminar and study rooms, specifically designed for Sixth Form classes, which will echo the flavour of our individualised approach to Sixth Form provision and which provides a professional and business like setting for all Sixth Form activities. This unique, individual, inspirational building supports the school's ethos to provide an environment which caters for individual success and provides focus and purpose to aid student achievement.  We want all students to thrive in this fantastic environment and enjoy their varied study options.

Every student is designated a tutor to ensure they are making the most out of their Sixth Form experience, gaining individual guidance in developing their studies. A diverse enrichment programme has been designed to complement and develop new interests and life skill opportunities. Students have an array of out of hours learning opportunities including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, local community voluntary action and overseas trips linked to their subject studies. We clearly aim to equip students with a host of key assets and skills for their adult lives and futures.

The school enjoyed its highest ever GCSE exam results this year, with a five A* to C pass rate of 73%!  With a very high proportion of eligible students joining the school's Sixth Form in Year 12, to undertake A Level or equivalent courses, both students and parents clearly believe that the school has provided excellent support and opportunity for progression... and we promise to continue to do the same throughout their time in the Canons High School Sixth Form!
