KEY STAGE 3 - INTEGRATED SCIENCE
Canons Science Department follows the planned production of a QCA scheme of work for Key Stage 3, the three main areas of the National Curriculum, in addition to the "Scientific Enquiry" and "Investigative Science" attainment target to meet both departmental and school aims.
At Canons High School, KS3 Science is taught in year 8 & year 9 that is built upon the achievements of yr 7.
Science lessons provide the factual knowledge to support, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship and also many of the learning contexts in which pupils explore the key issues.
Science teachers ensure that the National Curriculum taught is challenging, motivating for all pupils including the gifted and talented.
KS3 Science contributes to an essential balanced curriculum and provides pupils with knowledge of the natural world, the skills of investigation and experimentation and an appreciation of the importance of science to individuals and to society.
KS3 Science caters to the development of personal skills, curiosity, motivation, teamwork, creative thinking, creative writing and ability to communicate. These are important skills and values both in science and as part of a broader education. We help prepare pupils for KS3, KS4, KS5 and for a broad range of careers, as well as providing a basis for informed citizen.
Integrated Science is taught in 7 lessons a fortnight. Integrated Science includes Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Each module involves a range of opportunities to assess students' progress both formatively and summatively. Units are based on Exploring Science by Longman and Hodder Science that matches the QCA scheme of work. Each Science lesson is of 50 minutes duration that covers both practical and theory work. The students get home works and Science project work in Science.
