"Staff aim for excellence in all aspects of school life" (Ofsted May 2007).

At Canons High School and Sixth Form, our philosophy is that everyone matters. Our highly committed staff work hard with every individual student; we all share a love of learning. This view was confirmed during our Ofsted inspection, which judged the care, guidance and support we provide to be outstanding.

There is strong mutual respect at Canons and parents and students agree it is a very good school. "It is a very happy school where pupils's behaviour is excellent" (Ofsted May 2007).

We want everyone to be proud to be a part of our community. We want our students to feel safe and that they belong. We also want to support them in becoming independent learners. We expect our students to achieve the very best results they can, as well as becoming a rounded and grounded young person. "The personal development and well being of the pupil's are outstanding." (Ofsted May 2007).

Since September 2002, Canons High School has been a Technology College. As a Technology College, we receive significant extra funding to allow us to develop the use of the very latest technology right across the curriculum and, in particular, the areas of Design Technology, Maths, Science, and Information Technology. In 2006 we successfully redesignated as a Technology College for another four years. Also, we were successful in our bid to take on a second, applied learning specialism. This status will bring over £650,000 extra funding over the next four years as well as increased opportunities for all our students.

As a result of this funding, there have been significant improvements in resourcing and a wider range of opportunities provided for students.

We recognise the important role that new technology will have over the coming years in education and in society generally. We aim to use it to inspire young people who are ready to take their place confidently in tomorrow's society.

In June 2006, Canons High School was designated as a High Performing Specialist School by the Department for Education and Science.  The award is based upon the performance of schools over the last four years with a particular focus on the improvement in GCSE results and the progress that students in the school make.  At Canons, we add value to the performance of students of all abilities. We pride ourselves on the well ordered atmosphere within the school where the focus of all our activities is on the quality of learning and teaching.

In May 2007, Ofsted judged our curriculum and other activities to be outstanding.

In September 2007 Canons High School established a Sixth Form. Our new Sixth Form Centre is fully equipped with state-of-the-art ICT equipment and high quality facilities.  Our brand new £3.5 million Post-16 building opened in 2009, so this is a very exciting time for us at Canons.
