Student Illness - Cold & Flu Symptoms
You may be aware that this week a number of students complaining of a range of cold and flu symptoms have been sent home from school. In all cases parents were contacted and asked to collect their child and reminded to follow the advice given by the Harrow Primary Care Trust (PCT) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) that states, "anyone who has a fever and flu-like symptoms should stay at home and contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or their GP by phone for advice".
In recent weeks, there has been considerable publicity and concern surrounding the spread of swine flu. Harrow PCT and the HPA have told me that, as of yesterday, we do not have any official cases of swine flu at the school and that "children should not be kept off school if they are well". Further they asserted that "the virus is circulating within the community and closing the school would not help to slow the spread of the virus as people could still be exposed outside the school".
I hope this helps to keep you up-to-date and allay any concerns you might have. School is open and will remain so unless anything changes. We will continue to review the situation and will keep you informed by letter.
