Who is the course for?

All students who are good at and enjoy maths, especially the topic of algebra.

What can it lead to?

A vocation in many areas to include Accountancy, actuarial science, teaching and many more.

What are the entry requirements?

6 A*-C grades including English.  Maths at  grade B at the very least but a grade A is preferred.

What will I Study?

In the first year you will study Core maths 1 and 2 which include:

Algebra and Functions, Inequalities, Curve sketching, Sequences and series, Differentiation, Integration, Exponentials and logarithms, Coordinate geometry, Binomial expansion and Trigonometric identities.

You will also study either Mechanics or Statistics. Mechanics topics include:- Modelling, vectors and their applications, kinematics of a particle, statics of a particle, dynamics and moments. The same applies in the second year.

AS statistics topics include probability, regression analysis and discrete random variables in.  A2 statistics covers the binomial and Poisson distributions and continuous random variables.

How will I be taught?

You will have five 50 minute lessons every week

There are three exams for this level of which two are pure maths and one is either statistics or mechanics.

What equipment or materials will I need?

You will need to pay a deposit for text books and will need a scientific calculator.
