Who is the course for?

The course would suit anyone with an interest in commerce and industry or indeed anyone simply with a desire to understand how an economy runs. Particularly useful for students going on to a related degree course.

What can it lead to?

Economics provides an excellent foundation for professional careers and higher education courses in business, finance, banking, accountancy, law, insurance, marketing, personnel, management, economics, politics, social sciences and journalism.

What are the entry requirements?

6 GCSE grades A*-C. There is no requirement to have studied GCSE Business.

What will I study?

If you have an interest in economic affairs and a desire to explore why and how the study of economics contributes to an understanding of the modern world, you'll enjoy this course. Economics is the study of how resources are used to meet the needs of the people.  It involves the analysis of decisions made: what is produced; how much is produced and by what method; and how goods and services are

allocated.  Economics AS/A2 aims to develop an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions.

How will I be assessed?

Exams 100%

At AS there are 2 written exams of one and a half hours in length.

At A2 there are also 2 written exams, one of two hours length, the other at one and a half hours.
