Continuity: Working with our Middle School
We are totally committed to working closely with our local middle schools. To help develop further our working relationship, a senior member of our staff takes responsibility for co-ordinating liaison and to lead a team of our teachers, who have been working throughout the school year in and with our principal feeder schools - i.e. Aylward, Glebe, Little Stanmore and Stag Lane.
The main purposes of their work is to improve, still further, the links between our schools, to emphasise the importance we place on pupils' continuity of learning between Years 7 and 8, and to ensure a smooth transition for pupils from middle to high school within our community.
During the last year, a number of our Advanced Skills Teachers have worked closely with middle school colleagues to improve curriculum continuity in Science, French, Religious Education, Maths and ICT. Their brief is to respond to the teaching and learning requirements of teachers and pupils in certain specialist areas of teaching. This is a partnership scheme, which has already greatly enhanced the flow of information between our schools and has started to improve, still further the quality of education we are able to offer the children within our community.
Learning Networks between the Canons Cluster of Schools have continued this year. In these meetings teachers share good practice and learn from each other. This exchange of ideas will lead to even better educational experiences for young people.
