Citizenship
Citizenship
Course Leader: Mr W Williams
Examination Board: AQA
Syllabus Name: Citizenship Studies (short course).
Syllabus Number: 4106
Course Outline: The course is divided into four themes.
Theme 1: Community action and active citizenship
Theme 2: Being a citizen in the UK: democracy and identity
Theme 3: Fairness and justice
Theme 4: Global issues and making a difference
Assessment:
This subject is examined by a one hour exam paper. This has one question to answer from theme one and one question chosen by the candidate from themes two, three or four.
A re-sit of each paper is allowed. This means that the burden of exams is far less than in the past and that grades can be improved.
The Second exam is by way of a controlled assessment. This is prepared for in class and at home but is carried out in class. The task is set by the board but your teacher will know what it is before you start. It will examine something that you have studied during the course.
There is no coursework. A controlled assessment task worth 60% of the final mark is carried out in school. This is based on research of the work of a local charity.
Your Future:
Prepares students to become active citizens of our democracy, focusing on active citizenship; promotes students' personal and social development, making them more self-confident and responsible, in the classroom and beyond. It is very similar to the humanities GCSE and offers a path to study other subjects such as psychology and sociology.
