Careers
All students at Canons have a two week placement of work experience in Year 10. This gives them the opportunity to gain a clearer understanding of what employment will involve and helps focus their thoughts on what life will be like after school.
The work experience is supported by a conference in school, where students work with representatives from local business and industry.
A number of students are offered part-time or holiday jobs as a result of their work experience placements. Some are even offered full time jobs should they wish to go into full time work at the end of Year 11.
Students respond to this very positively and it is one of the major steps in becoming the mature young adults who leave at the end of that year.
There is a full programme of careers guidance during years 8, 9, 10 and 11, which, for most of our students, leads onto further study, either at the Sixth Form at Canons High School or elsewhere. The Connexions Service supports the careers work that goes on in school and offers expert advice on work based learning, Modern Apprenticeships and job opportunities, as well as mapping out career paths for students.
Usually, over 98% of Canons' students go onto further education, employment or training, this figure is well above the national average.
