What will I study?

The subject content is divided into six units of study, four of which are compulsory and two that we, as a school, can choose to study across the two years of the course. Each unit represents approximately 60 hours teaching time.

What units will I take?

Compulsory units of Study:

Unit 1 - Exploring business activity

Unit 2 - Investigating business resources

Unit 3 - Introduction to marketing

Unit 4 - Effective people, communication and information

We have chosen to study the following two units:

Unit 9 - Exploring creative product promotion

Unit 13 - Investigating recruitment and selection

How will I be assessed?

The course is 100% coursework centred on written assignments in each unit of work and there are three levels of attainment for students; pass, merit and distinction.  These will take a lot of time and hard work to achieve, but at the end of it students will possess skills and ideas that will make them an asset to any business. Assessors will check students work throughout the year to check that it meets the national standards; the work may also be looked at by an external verifier. Students need to show that they have developed analytical and evaluative skills to gain the better levels of award. Group work is also a key element of the course where students have to demonstrate their team work, skill development and peer assessment.

How will I be taught?

The activities used during the course centre around case studies which are based on real-life and fictional business situations. Research exercises will include direction to encourage students to carry out independent research. Discussion groups are designed to encourage all students to participate and students will also be asked to prepare and deliver presentations. These presentations may not always be verbal but may include displays, posters, as well as written reports.
